| Plate Four: Oliver Cowdery monument, November 1, 1911, Richmond, Ray County, MO, photographed by George Edward Anderson, LDS Church Archives, © Intellectual Reserve. This view shows the monument just after it was placed on the concrete foundation and before the ground around the monument was graded. Wells provided a description: “The Monument is of dark Barre granite, resting on a concrete submerged base, six feet square. It is composed of three pieces, all polished; rises to a height of eleven feet, and weighs eighteen tons.” Junius F. Wells, “The Oliver Cowdery Monument,” Improvement Era 15 (January 1912): 266. |
