Joseph Smith and the United Firm: The Growth and Decline of the Church's First Master Plan of Business and Finance, Ohio and Missouri, 1832–1834

On April 23, 1834, a revelation instructed Church leaders to dissolve the United Firm, which had been created in 1832 to manage the Church’s commercial and publishing enterprises. Max H Parkin’s landmark article, published in 2007, details the operations and problems of the firm. Parkin also explains how this organization came to be incorrectly conflated with the United Order in Utah.
