Lectures on Religion and the Founding of the American Republic: [Chapter 5] Virginia Founders and the Birth of Religious Freedom

Author W. Cole Durham Jr. Author Elizabeth A. Sewell

The Library of Congress exhibition Religion and the Founding of the American Republic was displayed at BYU at the same time that Salt Lake City was hosting the 2002Winter Olympic games. Media coverage, of course, focused on the games and the ensuing award ceremonies, but far more enduring public trophies of the human spirit were housed in the exhibition. Among those treasures were several key documents and original publications written by the Founding Fathers from Virginia, whose stand on religious freedom indelibly changed the face of law and society in America.
