Lee Udall Bennion: A Quiet Interview

Author Doris R. Dant

These pregnancy narratives tell of pregnancy and motherhood as experienced by eight Mormon women. The women, between the ages twenty-two and seventy, share their feelings about the challenges and blessings of pregnancy. Themes of augmented empowerment during pregnancy, greater agency, increased charity, and transcended stereotypes are present in each narrative. The women reported varying experiences with perceived pressure from family members and Church friends during their pregnancies, but each affirmed the importance of the LDS faith. They attribute this particularly to the Church's teachings about the sanctity of life and being a mother.
