The teaching style of Jesus involved the use of many questions. Chart 9-16 classifies this vast collection of questions used for teaching, demonstration, and reproof. Jesus’ questions were pedagogical, forensic, argumentative, and rhetorical. Unlike Socrates and Plato, who constructed long and elaborate dialogues asking question after question, Jesus mostly posed a single question to make an irrefutable point. His questions were penetrating and perceptive. They forced listeners to stop, think, evaluate, and act. This teaching style has much to offer to parents, teachers, and leaders today.
