In these chapters, four men are called in September and October 1830 to preach to the Lamanites, a mission with far-reaching consequences. The four men (Oliver Cowdery, Peter Whitmer Jr., Parley P. Pratt, and Ziba Peterson) visited briefly with the Seneca Indians, and then they went to Mentor, Ohio, to see Sidney Rigdon. Rigdon was converted and went with Edward Partridge to see Joseph Smith in Fayette, New York. There Rigdon was called to be Joseph’s scribe, and Partridge was converted.
