Jesus Promises...the Gift of the Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Eternal Godhead. The Holy Ghost is identified as a personage of Spirit distinct from both the Father and the Son. The Holy Ghost has many roles but can only dwell in the hearts of righteous Saints. To have the influence and companionship of the Holy Ghost is considered to be the greatest gift a person can receive in mortality.
The Prophet Joseph declared, "We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost." Understanding the roles of the members of the Godhead is pivotal to understanding the primary elements of the doctrine of Christ. Thought they are three distinct beings, they are one in purpose and effort. They are united to bring to pass the plan of salvation and exaltation for the children of God.
This article describes some of the events in the last few days of Jesus' life. Even though Christ knew of his own impending fate he continued to teach those who despised him. He taught simply, humbly, and gently. As the final hours of Christ's earthly mission came upon him, he turned away from the multitudes and sought to strengthen and teach his disciples. As he was falsely accused, illegally tried, and crucified he continued to demonstrate the grandeur of his spirit and the magnitude of his strength. He did what no other has ever done—he conquered death.
On Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday we often find our minds turning to Christ. How often during a normal day, week, or month are our minds devoted to Jesus? The author encourages his audience to reverence the id of Christ. "Surely life would be more peaceful, surely marriages and families would be stronger, certainly neighborhoods and nations would be safer and kinder and more constructive if more of the gospel of Jesus Christ could fill our breasts."
