Unknown to many, Jesse Gause was the first man called to be Prophet Joseph Smith’s counselor in the high priesthood, before Frederick G. Williams. But despite this important responsibility, Jesse Gause disappeared after being called to serve a mission, never to be seen or heard from again. How Jesse Gause came to such prominence and then faded into obscurity is not well known among the pages of Church history. Unfortunately, there is so little recorded concerning him that forming a profile of the man is difficult.
