15. The inaugural year of BYU Studies only had one issue instead of the usual four. An explanation for this comes from the late Church Historian, Leonard J. Arrington. According to him, an article he wrote for the first issue drew criticism from a Church leader, which caused the editor of the journal to not publish another issue for more than a year. And after this, again according to Arrington, the journal took a more cautious approach and shied away from interpretive, cutting-edge historical articles, which eventually led to the establishment of the Journal of Mormon History and Dialogue.
