Chad M. Orton
Chad M. Orton is a curator in the Historic Sites Division of the Church History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is the author of two previous BYU Studies articles, “Francis Webster: The Unique Story of One Handcart Pioneer’s Faith and Sacrifice” and “The Martin Company at the Sweetwater: Another Look.” He is also the coauthor of Joseph Smith’s America: His Life and Times (2005) and 40 Ways to Look at Brigham Young: A New Approach to a Remarkable Man (2008) and volume editor of The Journals of George Q. Cannon, vol. 2: Hawaiian Mission, 1850–1854 (2014).
