James H. Backman

James H. Backman is the Stephen L Richards Professor of Law at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark Law School, where he has been teaching since May 1974. During a leave of absence in 1982–84, Backman served as European Area legal counsel in Frankfurt, Germany. He had the opportunity of traveling several times to meet with the Church architect and the building planners in Dresden, Germany, in the years leading up to the construction of the Freiberg Germany Temple. He attended the groundbreaking there in 1984. He had the opportunity to meet Henry Burkhardt several times during that time period.
